Keszthely and neighbouring Hévíz are just half an hour's drive from Zalakaros. The Festetics Palace is Keszthely's most important monument; the restored building and its park take you back to the era of the Festetics family. Keszthely's charming pedestrian street, with restaurants, shops and cafés, starts from the palace park.

Next to the palace is the Hunting Museum, unique in Europe, displaying hundreds of trophies of 200 game species from 5 continents. Its attic houses a special model railway: 75 period locomotives and trains run at once on almost 3 km of track. In Keszthely, don't miss the Balaton promenade and a walk on the pier.

From Keszthely you can pop over to Hévíz for a dip in the Lake Bath, or just for an ice cream on the pedestrian street.
